Tabacos Baez Robusto

This is an offering from Don Pepin Garcia and has been a staple cigar of mine for the past year. It presents with a tawny wrapper that is smooth and dusty feeling. A quick examination reveals that there are no areas of concern in the construction of this cigar, it is firm and supple. The pre light aroma is of light earth and light wood. The pre light draw shows some thin notes of spice and earth.

The cigar opens with a profile of light wood and earth. There is some sweetness at the back of the palate that has some notes of spice. The draw is excellent, not too loose and not too tight. The burn is acceptable, but there is a split for about the first inch that is threatening the integrity of the smoke.

The first half of the cigar shows a profile of light earth, sweet wood and light tobacco. The strength is very mild, but shows some developing power as the first half progresses. At the back of the palate there is some light spice that adds to the mix, but there is some sourness that is creeping into the overall experience. The draw is still excellent and the split corrects without any issue.

The last half of the cigar continues to show notes of light earth and sweet woody character. The strength has progressed to a more medium bodied experience that is pleasing. At the back of the palate some sour notes persist, but there are still some notes of spice lingering in the presentation. The draw and burn are both fine at this point.

The finish is long and spicy, showing notes of earth and wood. I think, and have always thought, that this is an excellent starting cigar for the day.
