This is the Ashton line made by Pepin Garcia, this cigar is distinguished from the other La Aroma by the band, which contains two female profiles instead of just one. The cigar presents with a medium brown wrapper that has little veining and no visible flaws. A quick inspection reveals a flawless presentation and the I anticipate that the cigar will perform well. The pre light aroma is of spice and tobacco notes. The pre light draw shows sharp cedar notes.
The cigar opens with a profile of sweet wood and cedar notes that coat the palate with deep flavors. At the back of the palate there are notes of tobacco and further notes of sweet wood. The draw is excellent, producing thick, rich smoke that dances away lazily. The burn is problematic and a runner develops almost immediately.
The first half of the cigar develops nicely with rich and robust flavors of wood, cedar, spice and sweet bready notes. At the back of the palate there is a satisfying toasty tobacco character that imparts rich flavors and further layers of sweetness. The draw continues to be exceptional, but the burn continues to deteriorate, I can only hope it will level out before the end of the smoke so I don't have to retouch it.
The final half of the cigar continues to show satisfying flavors. The profile consists of sweet wood notes with layers of bread, cedar and spice. At the back of the palate toasty tobacco notes continue to progress and gather steam in the final third of the smoke. The draw is still excellent and the burn levels out at just past the halfway point of the cigar.
The finish is long and sweet showing sharp notes of cedar with undertones of sweet bread.
Appearance- 91 a nice looking smoke
Taste- 93 I was pleasantly surprised with the level of depth and complexity in this cigar
Construction- 86 near perfect draw nearly cancels out a terrible burn for the first half
Strength- 88 a nice medium/full, more power would have been complimented well by the profile
Overall- 89.5 an exceptional taste experience that was hindered by poor construction
