Cohiba Puro Dominicana Toro

This is an ultra premium offering from General Cigar, you can expect to pay twenty dollars or more at retail locations. The cigar is large and dark and has some prominent veins. The pre light aroma is not overpowering, but has notes of light spice. The pre light draw has a light tobacco character with some hints of light spice.

The cigar opens with earthy notes and a sour taste at the back of the palate. The draw is a bit tight, but the burn is not affected. The smoke is a little thin due to the draw. The first third of the cigar proceeds in this fashion.

At the halfway point the cigar develops a vegetal note, there is a sour sweetness as well that is not pleasing to the palate. The burn has stayed strong, but the draw remains tight. The main core of the profile is being ruined by notes that are not well defined and lacking in complexity.

The final third of the cigar shows some notes of cocoa and leather, but there is still a bitterness showing through. The burn has stayed acceptable, but the draw is still tight.

The finish is short and bitter with notes of leather and earth.

Appearance- 86 veins and a ruddy exterior hurt the score
Taste- 78 lacks complexity and depth, sour notes hurt the score
Construction- 79 tight draw hurts this score
Strength- 80 an unremarkable medium/full smoke
Overall- 80.75 average cigar at a way above average price
